Obama picks up Utah add-on; OH and MA to name 4 more today
WE’VE MOVED! Democratic Convention Watch is now at http://www.DemocraticConventionWatch.com
Utah selected it’s add-on superdelegate last night: Kristi Cumming. We know that Utah Chairman Wayne Holland, an Obama supporter, had previously announced that the add-on would be an Obama supporter, and we have received confirmation from the Utah Democratic Party that Cumming will be supporting Obama.
Obama moves to within 0.5 superdelegate votes of Clinton.
Four more add-ons are being selected today, two each from Massachusetts and Ohio.
We’ll post the names as soon as they’re announced.
Thanks for the update. I’ve been starting to read your blog more often, especially to check on super delegate updates.
It looks like Clinton might starve off Obama taking the lead since she won MA and OH. Eventually he’s going to lead in super delegates, we just might have to wait a few more days for that to happen.
Few more days? Few more hours looks more realistic 🙂
could be a few days i think. it’s unlikely that ma & oh add-ons will all be split. more likely clinton picks up 3 or 4. and it’s weekend – usually a time where we don’t see many endorsements?
A quick glance at the endorsement notes offers very little evidence in the way of superdelegate news dying down on weekends. I don’t think we’ll see a big swing in the numbers as we did yesterday but I wouldn’t be surprised if Obama finds other supers to counter Hillary’s add-ons this weekend.
Not clear at all that the MA add-ons will go to Clinton. Obama has been endorsed by the state chair of MA. Of the 10 state party committee members who are also DNC members, Obama leads in endorsements 5-3. He also has the support of the governor and both senators. We’ll just have to wait and see whom they select. (Their meeting was scheduled for 9:30 this morning).
The Ohio Democratic Party executive meeting is scheduled to meet from 10-11:30 this morning. The chair has not declared his support for either candidate, but the vice chair has said she is supporting Obama. So again we’ll have to see. I wouldn’t be surprised to see John Glenn selected (he supports Clinton), but again I wouldn’t take anything for granted.
Do you think that in the current situation any state would like to irritate the nominee? My guess is split today or even 2:0 Obama in MA. And all states that have to select add-ons will select either proportionally or in favour of Obama…
I think this weekend will be an exception as well. We’re down to a .5 delegate difference in the last bastion of Hillary’s campaign.
There are only two more thresholds of symbolic relevance, Obama taking the superdelegate lead, and reaching 2025.
Politicians are suckers for attention. I would expect a small handful to flock to the cameras to try and out unify-the-party the other.
galois, thank you very much for the information. Your research is much appreciated.
