DNCC Announces Final Night Line-Up for Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA – The Democratic National Convention Committee (DNCC) announced the program for the final day of the Democratic National Convention being held in Philadelphia from July 25 to July 28. The night will end with Hillary Clinton’s acceptance of the Democratic Party’s nomination.

In Philadelphia, Democrats have laid out the clear stakes in this election – a choice between building walls and tearing people down or an optimistic unifying vision where we are stronger together and everyone has a role to play in building our future.

Day 3 and YOU. ARE. THERE.

Sorry due to a technological problem, no photos today.

It turns out that there was a problem last night with so many guest passes to the floor that not all delegations were able to sit together for the roll call. The Fire Marshall was not pleased. Tonight, entry will be much more strict, and guest passes will be limited. I was told by two members of the Pennsylvania delegation that they actually had to sit with the Arkansas delegation and they were going to find them tonight as their adopted state. Don’t worry, when you heard the votes called out, they were pre-tallied in the morning at each meeting.

Something else you might not have heard. Last night, late, there was a planned, permitted, Black Lives Matter march near the Convention Center. A number of white supremacists showed up, without permits and definitely unwanted. The police did an AWESOME job of keeping the groups apart and making sure that Black Lives Matter were able to hold the march while the idiots were kept at bay. Continue Reading...

PHILADELPHIA – The Democratic National Convention Committee (DNCC) announced the program for the third day of the Democratic National Convention being held in Philadelphia fromJuly 25 to July 28.

In Philadelphia, Democrats are laying out the clear stakes in this election – a choice between building walls and tearing people down or an optimistic unifying vision where everyone has a role to play in building our future.

On Wednesday night, speakers will discuss how Hillary Clinton has the experience and steadiness to bring Americans together to get real results for our families. Her strong leadership will deliver economic results for all Americans and keep us safe. While Donald Trump is in over his head and reckless, Hillary can provide the leadership we need for the country we want to be.

What’s done is done and our 2016 presidential race officially has nominees from the two major US political parties! In a history-making moment, the Democratic Party has nominated it’s first female candidate for President last night. Here’s your DNC Day 2 Daily Dispatch!

Arab Americans at the Convention

  • Our block party – Ahlan Wa Sahlan Philly! – was a huge success! We had music, dabke, food, hookah, some stand up comedy, and a ton of fun saluting the nominee! Check out some early pictures and stay tune for our wrap up of all that went down.
  • AAIF hosted a luncheon for the nearly 50 Arab American delegates that are in Philadelphia – along with the many more on staff with the DNC, this year we have one of the largest Arab American contingent in our history! Senator Debbie Stabenow, Representative Debbie Dingell, and Billy Shaheen joined us for delicious food and to hear the stories of how and why Arab Americans have gotten involved in the political process.
  • Check out Arab American Clem Balanoff casting Illinois’ official votes on the convention floor. Clem served as the Illinois state Director for Senator Bernie Sanders’ campaign.
  • AAI President Dr. Jim Zogby and Executive Director Maya Berry briefed the U.S. State Department’s foreign press. Listen to their remarks here.

Day 2 and YOU. ARE. THERE.

orange barrietI attended two terrific events yesterday. A Taste of Emerge was an introduction from the group Emerge, which trains women to run for office. The Future of Healthcare was a panel discussion. They are each detailed below. After those events, At the end of the second event came the high point of my experience of this convention. A compliment I will not soon forget.

I dropped by the Progressive Democrats of America location: a place to stop and recharge and be amoungst (in my case) like-minded people. I was then walking back to the next event, when the collision occurred. The sidewalk was narrow and filled with people. The street was blocked with orange barriers as there was construction. I saw him coming. A big guy. I tried to get out of his way, but there was nowhere to go. He knocked me into the orange barrier, and the brunt was taken by my bad knee. He was playing Pokémon Go. He never saw me, although a couple nearby people yelled at him, then stopped him, and he picked me up. My first thought was that those barriers are a lot sturdier then they look.
