Convention to be simulcast in Spanish

WE’VE MOVED! Democratic Convention Watch is now at http://www.DemocraticConventionWatch.com

Surprising this hasn’t been done before:

The Democratic National Convention Committee (DNCC) announced today that Comcast Corporation will produce simultaneous, online streaming coverage of the Convention in Spanish at DemConvention.com and make available a broad range of Convention content through its signature On Demand service.

From the Comcast Media Center, based in the Denver metro area, Comcast will provide live, gavel-to-gavel Spanish-language interpretation of all Convention activities from the Pepsi Center to be streamed online at DemConvention.com from August 25-28. This marks the first time a national political Convention has been completely simulcast in Spanish and made available to a worldwide audience. – DNCC Press Release Continue Reading...

Superdelegates won’t be the only celebrities in Denver in August. A large number of stars from the entertainment industry will also be in town for the convention.

The Creative Coalition announced today that it will host a series of events at both Presidential Nominating Conventions, including exclusive performances by some of the biggest headlining artists in music. Scheduled for the third night of each Convention, the benefit performances, presented by Target, promise to be the most sought after gala events of either week. Continue Reading...

Framing the House – ID-01 (yup, Idaho)

WE’VE MOVED! Democratic Convention Watch is now at http://www.DemocraticConventionWatch.com

Hard to imagine you’d find anything approaching a competitive House race in Idaho but the ID-1st is really interesting. (Hat tip to Marshall from Idaho.)

When we frame races, one of the things we look at is how the last Presidential race turned out. Regular race-framers would look at Idaho and say “Bush carried the state by 38%” and walk away. However, I looked at the numbers and found out that Bush lost Blaine County to Kerry, (albeit in the ID-02), lost Latah County to Kerry plus the 3rd party candidates (ID-01) and barely won Shoshone County (ID-01). This indicates to me that there are cracks in the red brick wall. I couldn’t find any poll data I considered reliable, but I found an unreliable poll indicating McCain was beating Obama by 13% in March. I could find no current polling on the ID-1st. Obama and Convention Funding

WE’VE MOVED! Democratic Convention Watch is now at http://www.DemocraticConventionWatch.com

The LA Times has an interesting article today that explains the state of funding for the both the Democratic and Republican Conventions. Unlike Barack Obama’s campaign, convention funding comes primarily from lobbyists and corporations.

The person in charge of coming up with the money to fund the Democrats’ convention, Steven Farber, is a federal lobbyist. Farber, a partner at the law firm of Brownstein, Hyatt, Farber & Schreck, which has offices in Denver and Washington, remains $11.6 million short of the $40.6 million the Denver host committee pledged to raise to help fund the convention, which has a budget of about $70 million.
