Democratic Convention Watch: Donna Edwards wins MD-4 Special Election

Donna Edwards wins MD-4 Special Election
WE’VE MOVED! Democratic Convention Watch is now at http://www.DemocraticConventionWatch.com
For three months, we wrote about the the Special Election in MD-4, starting with the announcement of Al Wynn’s resignation, approval of legislation approving a June Special Election, and finally Al Wynn’s official resignation on May 31, which set the non FL/MI number of delegates to 4,049, and the number of delegates for a majority at 2,025, despite many media organization’s incorrect claim that the number was 2,026.
Well, all this was just in anticipation of Donna Edward’s sure victory in today’s Special Election, and she has indeed won:

Framing the House: Plus NY-13
WE’VE MOVED! Democratic Convention Watch is now at http://www.DemocraticConventionWatch.com
There will be 435 seats for voting House members up for grabs this November 4th.
According to “conventional wisdom”, 345 of them will remain in the same party’s hands as in the 110th Congress, that is, 198 Democratic, 147 Republican; while 14 races are complete toss-ups. The others, depending on who you read, are either “favoured” or “leaning”.

Florida delegate controversy
WE’VE MOVED! Democratic Convention Watch is now at http://www.DemocraticConventionWatch.com
Unlike Michigan, where the vetting of the Obama (actually Uncommitted) delegates went smoothly, there’s controversy over part of Obama’s Florida delegation:
So much for party unity: As Florida Dems prepare for Saturday’s Jefferson-Jackson dinner aimed at bringing the party “together once and for all,” a spat over the Obama campaign’s decision to replace some already-designated Florida delegates with Obama backers has intensified.

The Debt We Owe Tim Russert
WE’VE MOVED! Democratic Convention Watch is now at http://www.DemocraticConventionWatch.com
People in my generation grew up watching Walter Cronkite, Chet Huntley and David Brinkley bring us the Vietnam War every night with dinner. We none of us thought to question anything they said to us. As kids in the 60’s, they were “the source”. Back then, AP, Reuters, UPI sent feeds, and the networks and newspapers developed bureaus throughout the world to collect and disseminate “news”. Interviews of newsmakers were, for the most part, bland if not moribund.
“The facts” were often what “the powers that be” wanted “us” (the regular people) to know. That was brought home to us as a country in 1971 when the NY Times published what became The Pentagon Papers.

Just 73 days before the Democratic National Convention in Denver, and six days before media outlets were scheduled to travel to the Mile High City, the Democratic National Convention Committee postponed a scheduled media walk-through.
