Record number of Native American delegates to Dem Convention this year

WE’VE MOVED! Democratic Convention Watch is now at http://www.DemocraticConventionWatch.com

An interesting article over at the Native American Times on the growing number and influence of Native American delegates to the Democratic Convention. According to the article, this year it is anticipated that 150 delegates will be Native Americans, an increase from just 7 in 2000.

Superdelegate Margaret Campbell from Montana is one of these tribal members. She initially supported Barack Obama until she had to rescind due to her role as the Vice Chairman of the Montana Democratic Executive Committee (she is required to stay neutral until after the Montana primary on June 3rd). Democratic Convention Watch: Michigan Dems propose 69-59 split

Michigan Dems propose 69-59 split

WE’VE MOVED! Democratic Convention Watch is now at http://www.DemocraticConventionWatch.com

The Michigan Democratic party has gotten behind last weeks proposal from U.S. Rep. Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick, United Auto Workers President Ron Gettelfinger, U.S. Sen. Carl Levin and DNC member Debbie Dingell:

The state party’s executive committee voted today to ask the national party’s Rules and Bylaws Committee to approve the 69-59 delegate split when it meets May 31. The plan would shrink Clinton’s delegate edge in Michigan from 18 to 10 and allow the state’s 157 delegates and superdelegates to be seated at the convention.

The state’s Democratic leaders also pushed back the date of the party’s State Central Committee meeting from May 17 to June 14 to give the rules committee time to act. The party is to pick 45 pledged delegates and two superdelegates at that meeting. It chose 83 pledged delegates last month at district conventions. Continue Reading...

Florida and Michigan superdelegates

WE’VE MOVED! Democratic Convention Watch is now at http://www.DemocraticConventionWatch.com

Here’s a list of the superdelegates from Florida and Michigan. We’ve always included these superdelegates on our lists of supers who have and have not committed to a candidate, but they’re shown in red, and not included in most of our delegate trackers. Whether these supers get seated is up to the RBC, the Credentials Committee, and the convention itself.

Florida Add-on Dan Gelber’s endorsement of Obama today was the first endorsement by a Florida or Michigan super in at least 2 months. Continue Reading...

Democratic Convention Watch: Greetings from North Carolina

Greetings from North Carolina

WE’VE MOVED! Democratic Convention Watch is now at http://www.DemocraticConventionWatch.com

Hello friends and neighbors! Mr. Super here posting from the ground in North Carolina today. Lots of exciting news out here and in Indiana as well. I’ll offer the early insights that I have so far:

North Carolina employs an early vote period which allows voters to cast ballots at polling places two weeks in advance of an election. This year voters cast nearly half of a million ballots during that period, which is a record for this state, already surpassing the early vote totals from general elections in 2004 and 2006.
