Notice the walk in from the convention floor, and the long 4 minute pre-speech celebration. This was DCW’s first convention!

Arab American Institute Daily Dispatch: DNC Day 3
It was an packed night last night. The Convention was bursting from the seams with Democrats eager to salute the Party’s top elected officials – Vice President Joe Biden and President Barack Obama. We also got a first hand look at Hillary Clinton’s pick for Vice President, Virginia Senator Tim Kaine. There’s a lot to cover on all fronts, so here is your DNC Day 3 dispatch:

DNCC Announces Final Night Line-Up for Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA – The Democratic National Convention Committee (DNCC) announced the program for the final day of the Democratic National Convention being held in Philadelphia from July 25 to July 28. The night will end with Hillary Clinton’s acceptance of the Democratic Party’s nomination.
In Philadelphia, Democrats have laid out the clear stakes in this election – a choice between building walls and tearing people down or an optimistic unifying vision where we are stronger together and everyone has a role to play in building our future.
The program is listed below:
4:00 PM – 6:00 PM (EDT)

The Speeches
It was surprising how hard last night’s speakers went after Donald Trump. I had thought they would all stay positive, in diametric opposition to the RNC’s no-ideas-only-hatefest last week. But the main speeches were intertwined with condemnation of Trump, and positiveness of we Americans, democracy, the Democratic Party, and Hillary Clinton. It’s hard to pick a favourite between Mike Bloomberg and Joe Biden, it really is, for different reasons, both were masterful. Mike for being a billionaire and an Independent talking honestly about what a con artist Trump is, and showing all of us how the rich actually act. Uncle Joe for reminding us what it means to be proud, patriotic Americans with liberal values. After the jump, both speeches for your viewing pleasure. Also included, President Obama’s speech, his fourth at the DNC. That’s fourth so far, but he may reach Bill Clinton’s ten.

Putin-Trump 2016
No, I don’t think that Trump is actually running on a ticket with Vladimir Putin. It’s just that sometimes, you just can’t tell for sure. Throughout 2015, the conventional wisdom was that, at some point, as the primaries approached, Republican voters would wake up from their flirtation with Donald Trump and realize that Trump is not a Republican, that he supports almost none of the traditional positions that the Republican Party has taken for the past fifty years.
Nowhere is Trump’s lack of respect for issues and principles clearer than when he stumbles into foreign policy. The only discernable principle that Trump has demonstrated so far when it comes to foreign policy is some variation on mercantilism — that the only foreign policy interest that the U.S. has is what’s good for U.S. business, primarily what’s good for the Trump Organization.
The past week has seen several examples of this approach. On NATO, forget the fact that the security guarantees that the U.S. has given eliminates any need for Germany, Poland, the Baltic states, Ukraine, etc., to develop their own nuclear weapons (and all could within months). What matters is how much everyone is paying, as if the U.S. Army was 21st century mercenaries fighting on behalf of the highest bidder.

Day 3 and YOU. ARE. THERE.
Sorry due to a technological problem, no photos today.
It turns out that there was a problem last night with so many guest passes to the floor that not all delegations were able to sit together for the roll call. The Fire Marshall was not pleased. Tonight, entry will be much more strict, and guest passes will be limited. I was told by two members of the Pennsylvania delegation that they actually had to sit with the Arkansas delegation and they were going to find them tonight as their adopted state. Don’t worry, when you heard the votes called out, they were pre-tallied in the morning at each meeting.
Something else you might not have heard. Last night, late, there was a planned, permitted, Black Lives Matter march near the Convention Center. A number of white supremacists showed up, without permits and definitely unwanted. The police did an AWESOME job of keeping the groups apart and making sure that Black Lives Matter were able to hold the march while the idiots were kept at bay.
