DNCC Announces Opening Night Program for Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA – The Democratic National Convention Committee (DNCC) announced the program for the opening day of the Democratic National Convention being held in Philadelphia from July 25 to July 28. Additional speakers will continue to be announced throughout the convention. In Philadelphia, Democrats are preparing to lay out the clear stakes in this election – a choice between building walls and tearing people down or an optimistic unifying vision where everyone has a role to play in building our future.
Monday will focus on putting the future of American families front and center and how we’re stronger together when we build an economy that works for everyone, not just those at the top and when everyone has a chance to live up to their God-given potential.
The program is listed below:

Dems need 3000 more volunteers for Philadelphia convention
7000 down, 3000 to go:
The Philadelphia 2016 Host Committee, or PHLDNC, needs about 10,000 volunteers for the four-day event, executive director Kevin Washo said Wednesday during Visit Philadelphia’s New Year’s breakfast. That’s about the same amount required for Pope Francis’ visit last September.
About 7,000 people have already registered to volunteer, Washo said.

#PHLDNC2016 Hotel Assignments
If you’re coming to Philadelphia for July’s convention, you’ll need a place to stay. After the jump is the official hotel list indicating which state delegations are staying in which hotels. While many delegations are staying in Philly proper, a large group will be out in the King of Prussia/Valley Forge area (20 miles outside town), and others in Bucks County (40 miles).
The out-of-town venues are much closer than those that were outside Charlotte in 2012. And there are both buses and the Regional Rail for those visitors who won’t be with the delegations. (They tend to have buses/vans and travel as a group).

Lee Wack Jr named as #DNC2016 Press Secretary
The Democratic National Convention Committee today named Lee Whack as Press Secretary for the 2016 Democratic National Convention. Lee joins the Convention team from the U.S. House of Representatives where he served as Communications Director for Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL).
“We are very pleased that Lee is joining the Convention team,” said Convention CEO Leah D. Daughtry. “I am confident his background and experience will help us achieve our goal of being the most engaging, inclusive and forward-looking convention in history.”
Prior to his work for Rep. Schakowsky, Lee was public relations manager for the DC Housing Finance Agency. Before that, he was a communications staffer for several Democrats in the Illinois State Senate. He also managed press for the National Public Housing Museum and the 2010 Illinois State Treasurer’s race. Previously, he was a local news reporter for the Chicago Tribune. Born in Pittsburgh and raised in the Chicago area, he is a graduate of Morehouse College with a Master’s in Journalism from Northwestern University.

2016 Delegate Selection-Part III: Democratic Delegate Allocation and Selection
the first two parts of this series, we looked at the some background information that applies to both parties (namely the roles of the national parties, the state parties) and state legislatures and some of the basic rules that the Democratic National Committee requires all state parties to follow. As noted in the previous post, the Democratic National Delegate Selection rules recognize four separate categories of delegates — district level delegates, at-large delegates, pledged PLEOs (party leaders and elected officials, and unpledged PLEOs (a/k/a super delegates). This post will look at how those delegates are allocated to the states (and then to the individual categories within the states).
The Democratic Party begins delegate allocation with a base of 3,200 district level and at-large delegates for the fifty states and the District of Columbia. Each state’s initial share is determined by a two-part formula. The first part averages each state’s share of the national Democratic vote over the last three Presidential elections. The second part looks at each state’s share of the total electoral vote (e.g. California has 55 electoral votes out of the national total of 538, or slightly over 10%). Those two numbers are averaged together to get a final ratio. (The effect of this formula is that the more Democratic states do slightly better than a pure allocation based on electoral votes and the Republican states do slightly worse. For California, rather than the 10.2% that California would get from electoral votes, this formula gives California 11%.) When this formula leaves a state with a factional delegate, .5 or higher gets rounded up, anything less than .5 gets rounded down.
After the base allocation, the Democratic Party gives a bonus for holding primaries or the first stage of a caucus (for those states using caucuses to award delegates) later in the process. For states holding a regional primary (at least three adjoining states) on or after March 28, the states get a 15% bonus. If a state begins in April, the state gets a 10% bonus. If a state begins in May or June, the state gets a 20% bonus. The bonuses for going after April 1 or on top of any regional primary bonus.

Reverend Leah Daughtry reportedly named as CEO of the DNCC for #DNC2016
Democratic National Committee Chair Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz on Thursday said that the Rev. Leah D. Daughtry will serve as chief executive officer of the Democratic National Convention Committee in 2016.
Daughtry, 52, who splits time between Washington, D.C., and Brooklyn, New York, served in the position in 2008 in Denver, Colorado, when Barack Obama was elected the first Black president of the United States.
“We are thrilled to have Leah Daughtry return to lead our convention team. She will bring so much expertise and enthusiasm to this important event,” Wasserman Schultz said in a prepared statement. – NewsOne
